The purpose of adoption is to promote the best interests of the child. The purpose of adoption counselling is to determine whether adoption is possible.
If the client wants to adopt a child, adoption counselling provides advice and helps them assess their ability to become an adoptive parent and prepare for parenthood. The counsellor will also guide the applicant to apply for an adoption permit and possibly to an international adoption service.
