The Regional Museum of Lapland is responsible for the protection of archaeological cultural heritage within its area of jurisdiction. The museum issues official statements concerning archaeological sites to authorities, decision‑makers, and planners. These statements help guide land‑use planning, land management, and construction projects.

You may contact the museum’s archaeologist for expert advice and information concerning the prehistory and history within the museum’s area of responsibility. If you discover, or suspect that you have discovered an archaeological site, you must notify the museum’s archaeologist without delay. Individuals engaging in activities such as metal detecting are likewise advised to consult the museum’s archaeologist, who will provide guidance and answer questions regarding the appropriate procedures for working with archaeological heritage.
If necessary, a personal appointment may be arranged.
The museum issues official statements, for example in connection with zoning, forestry operations, and construction projects. Official requests for statements must be submitted to the Registry Office of the City of Rovaniemi: kirjaamo@rovaniemi.fi.
