Citizenship declaration for a child born abroad whose parent is a Finnish citizen

Submit this declaration to apply for Finnish citizenship for a child under 18 years of age if:

  • the child is born outside marriage in a country other than Finland and only the child’s father is a Finnish citizen, or
  • the child is born in a country other than Finland and has 2 mothers and only the non-birth mother is a Finnish citizen.

Do the following

  1. Make sure the child meets the following requirements:
  • The child’s identity has been reliably established.
  • The child is born outside marriage in a country other than Finland, and only the child’s father is a Finnish citizen, or
  • the child has 2 mothers and only the non-birth mother is a Finnish citizen.

These requirements must be met at the time you submit the declaration.

2. Make sure you have all the required attachments.

3. Fill in the declaration and add your documents.

4. Pay for the declaration.

5. Bring the child with you to the appointment for proving his or her identity.

6. Wait for the decision, the Finnish Immigration Service will contact you if necessary.
