If guardians are working shifts or their studies take place in the evening, they can apply for a place in early childhood education and care with extented hours for their child.
Care with extended hours is not covered by the subjective right to early childhood education.

Do the following
Employer’s certificate of shift work:
- Submit the form to the daycare at least once per operational year.
Applying to transfer to a early childhood education and care unit with extended hours:
- Submit an electronic transfer application if your child already has a place in early childhood education and care and you need to transfer them to a care unit with extended hours.
- Provide the Employer’s certificate of shift work form to the early childhood education and care guidance team.
- You can apply for a transfer at any time of the year.
Applying to transfer from extended hours unit to a day unit when the need for extended hours ends:
- Submit an electronic transfer application.
To whom and on what terms
You can apply for a place in night and weekend care for your child if you do shift work or evening study.
Night and weekend care in early childhood education and care may be given to a child who has not reached the age of compulsory education. Early childhood education and care may also be given to a child who has already reached the age of compulsory education if special circumstances so require and care cannot be otherwise arranged.
Background information
A child may be provided with a place in night and weekend care when their parents or other guardians do shift work or evening study. In night and weekend care, the child participates in early childhood education and care, for example in the evenings, nights, weekends or on public and national holidays.
