Nature Trails and Outdoor Routes

In the Rovaniemi city area, there are three nature trails, one winter walking route, and a longer outdoor trail.

  • Nature trails are each equipped with information boards about local nature and surroundings.
  • The Mäntyvaara–Pohtimo outdoor route is a more challenging hiking trail with a length of 27 km.
  • During the winter season, the Ounasvaara winter walking trail is maintained for use.

Do the following

Outdoor routes, nature trails, and hiking paths are marked in the terrain. The trails intersect with other unmarked paths, so please follow the trail markers as you go.

There are lean-to shelters along the routes, and they are freely available for everyone to use. Please note that making a fire is not allowed during forest fire warnings.

At the starting points of the Ounasvaara trails, you’ll find information boards that also include guidance in English.

Information on all service channels is not available in your chosen language. Change the language of the site to receive information on service channels in other languages.

To whom and on what terms

The trails and hiking routes are freely available for everyone to use.

Outdoor routes, nature trails and hiking paths are marked in the terrain with signs and trail markers.

The routes are classified as easy or moderately difficult.

Please note that some parts of the trails are not accessible for people with reduced mobility.
