In early childhood education, each child’s development and learning are supported individually. Our goal is to ensure that every child receives the right kind of support at the right time, both in daily routines and during the transition to pre-primary education. Early, well-targeted support promotes well-being and prevents challenges from becoming more complex.

It is necessary to assess your child’s need for support when drafting a plan for early childhood education and care. In addition to you and the childhood staff, other professionals such as a psychologist, a speech therapist or an occupational therapist may participate in this work.
Background information
In early childhood education for children with special educational needs, children receive the support they personally need. The reason for the need for support may be either physical or related to knowledge, skills, emotional life or social development. In practice, a child’s support can consist of different functional solutions, individualised small group activities or be a part of other early education centre and early childhood education and care activities.
Children are supported through multidisciplinary cooperation involving, for example, a special educational needs teacher in early childhood education and care, a public-health nurse, a psychologist, a social worker, a music therapist, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, a family counselling centre, child psychiatry and their school.
If a child needs support while in early childhood education and care, the municipality strives to either implement the support in their current place of early childhood education and care or find a place that is more suitable for the child.
