Notice updated on 15 August 2025: The new deletion feature for end users will be deployed to production on 19 August 2025.
Notice updated on 24 March 2025: Changes to the REST API functionality will be deployed to production on 27 March 2025.
The functionalities of Suomi.fi Messages will be changed on 19 August 2025, which will affect how citizens or companies using Suomi.fi Messages can delete their sent and received messages.
In the future, the service will have a separate folder called “Deleted” where all messages deleted by the end user will be moved. Messages the end user deletes will remain in the Deleted folder for 60 days. After this, they will be removed from the service.
The user has 60 days to restore messages they have moved to the Deleted folder and move them back to their original folder.
This change will affect the functionalities of the REST API
The change will affect the functionality of the Suomi.fi Messages REST API as follows:
Data related to end users will only be available for 60 days:
- In the future, all data related to the end user (e.g., message status data and data related to messages sent by the end user) will be available to organisations using Suomi.fi Messages via the REST API for 60 days after the data have been recorded in the Suomi.fi Messages system.
- Data older than 60 days will no longer be available via the REST API. Please note that you must retrieve the data from the API in time!
Restrictions on replying to messages:
- Your organisation may only reply to an end user’s message as long as it exists.
- If you try to reply to a message that has been permanently deleted, you will get an error when trying to reply. In this case, you should send a new message to the end user.
The changes described here are already in use in the REST API test environment. The functionality will be moved into production on 27 March 2025.
The change will not affect any old Suomi.fi Messages APIs.
