Changes to the Suomi.fi Messages REST API: TLS 1.3 recommendation and IP address restrictions
Published 27/5/2026
The changes concern the Suomi.fi Messages REST API. Please ensure your integration is up-to-date if you are using the REST API.
If your current integration does not yet use the REST API, please migrate to it as soon as possible. The old APIs (WS, SFTP and SMTP) will be shut down on 1 January 2027.
Use of the TLS 1.3 protocol is recommended
The Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) recommends using the TLS 1.3 protocol with the Suomi.fi Messages REST API. Support for the TLS 1.2 protocol will be discontinued at a later stage.
REST API access will be restricted to authorised IP addresses
During June, DVV will tighten the use of IP addresses in the Suomi.fi Messages REST API. In future, the API can only be accessed from IP addresses authorised for the system in question. The change applies to both test and production environments.
In this context, a “system” refers to a configuration entity in Suomi.fi Messages that is identified by a system ID. The system ID also serves as the username for the Suomi.fi Messages REST API.
