Official mail is becoming digital - Tell your customers about the change and make use of the updated communication materials
Published 9/4/2026
The receipt of official mail will become primarily digital starting 14 April 2026. The change will be visible to your customers the next time they authenticate in your or another authority’s online services. During authentication, they will be guided to activate Suomi.fi Messages.
The transition to digital official mail may increase the number of contacts to your customer service.
Therefore, it is important to inform your customers that Suomi.fi Messages will be activated during authentication.
Also remember to tell your customers
- what your organisation sends via Suomi.fi Messages
- where the recipient will receive the mail you send if you are not yet using Suomi.fi Messages
The need to communicate about the change is not linked to whether your organisation uses Suomi.fi Messages, as the change will be visible to your customers when they log in to the digital service you provide.
Use ready-made communication materials to inform about the change
We have updated the communication materials describing the change.
Use them when informing your customers and training your staff on how to communicate the change.
The materials include, for example, a press release template, web banners, social media materials, infoscreen materials, images, instructions and posters.
The material package also includes materials for training your staff and for use by your customer service.
All materials are freely available for your organisation.
