Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer version 6.26.0 has been published

Release noteSuomi.fi Data Exchange Layer

Published 26/3/2021

The Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer’s latest version, 6.26.0, was published on 26 March 2021. The new version includes security improvements and bug fixes. The Data Exchange Layer’s Central Server Environments will be updated to the new version between April and May 2021.

The Central Server Environments FI-DEV and FI-TEST of the Data Exchange Layer have been updated to the new version in April 2021. The Central Server Environment for production will be updated in May 2021. The precise times of each update will be reported via the environment-specific distribution lists before the update is to take place.

Planned update schedule (changes can occur):

  • Development Environment (FI-DEV) Wed 14 April 2021
  • Test Environment (FI-TEST) Wed 21 April  2021
  • Production Environment (FI) Wed 5 May 2021

Please note that during the update to the new software version of the Central Server Environment, no new security servers or organisations can be added to the Data Exchange Layer. However, the update will not affect the operations of any individual security servers that have already been connected.

New features in version 6.26.0

The new software version and all installation packages have been implemented by the Nordic Institute for Interoperability Solutions (NIIS), which is run jointly by Finland and Estonia.

For more information about the new features and enhancements included in version 6.26.0, please see NIIS’ official release notes: X-Road v6.26.0 Release NotesOpens in a new window..

Version 6.26.0 includes:

  • Support for replacing OpenJDK8 with another Java 8 distribution on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS platforms
  • Security improvements. For example: Special characters will be written in the audit log in encoded format on both the central server and the security server. CSRF protection has been added to the API key endpoints of the security server management interfaces
  • Other corrections and user interface improvements have been implemented for example, to the Keys and Certificates view on the basis of user feedback.

Installation and update instructions

The new security server software version will be made available for different Data Exchange Layer environments (FI-DEV, FI-TEST, and FI) once the Data Exchange Layer’s Maintenance Service has updated each Central Server Environment to the new version. After the Central Server Environments have been updated, the Maintenance Service will provide more detailed update instructions by email to the technical contact persons for each security server.

Following the update of the Central Server Environments, we recommend updating all security servers to the new version within four weeks. The update includes new security improvements, so we recommend updating to this version as soon as possible.

Please note that the update to version 6.26 is only possible from X-Road versions 6.24.1 and 6.25.0. This means that, if you have a version older than this, you will need to update to either version 6.24.1 or 6.25.0 before installing the latest version.

The new version 6.26.0 supports the RHEL 7 and RHEL 8, as well as Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS platform versions.
