Marriage ceremony and marriage registration

A marriage ceremony can be a civil marriage ceremony or a church wedding. Civil marriage ceremonies are available with us and the District Court. Church weddings are available at the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Orthodox Church, as well as at certain registered religious communities.

Do the following

  • First, order an examination of impediments to marriage in our online service. The certificate is valid for 4 months from the date of issue.
  • Reserve a time for the wedding ceremony in our electronic booking system. You can also book a reservation on the phone, by email, or by visiting one of our service locations.

To whom and on what terms

  • Before the marriage ceremony, the couple must request an examination of impediments to marriage. This ensures that no impediments under Finnish law exist for the marriage.
  • The impediment examination certificate must be submitted to the officiator before the marriage ceremony can take place.
  • The engaged parties have to prove their identity to the officiator before the marriage ceremony.
