Registering as a job seeker

Most of the employment services are provided for people who have registered as job seekers. As a customer of employment services, experts will advise and guide you in applying for work and choosing the right services.

Do the following

Register as a job seeker at the latest on your first day of unemployment or lay-off.

When you register as a job seeker, you must describe your work experience, training and competence. Gather this information from your certificates. In order to receive unemployment security, you must accurately record the details of the work you have performed for the purpose of the statement.

The registration method depends on the country in which you are a citizen, and whether you are registering as a job seeker for the first time.

Finnish citizen

Start your job search in the E-services of JobMarket. You may also register as a job seeker by phone if your identity can be verified on the basis of your customer data for example.

EU/EEA citizen

If you have a Finnish personal identity code, start your job search in the E-services of JobMarket.

You may also register as a job seeker by phone if the contents of your residence permit card are up to date and your identity can be verified on the basis of your customer data, for example.

The employment services will contact you in order to arrange an initial interview. For the initial assessment referred to in the Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration and the preparation of an integration plan, you must present a certificate of registration of the residence of an EU citizen or a residence card for a family member of an EU citizen.

Citizen of some other country holding a residence permit

Fill in the registration form and send it to the employment services. You will be registered as a job seeker if you have been granted a residence permit and you have the right to work in Finland. If you do not have a valid residence permit but have applied for an extended residence permit, the employment services will check whether you can register as a job seeker.

You can also register as a job seeker by phone if the contents of your residence permit card are up to date in our system and your identity can be verified on the basis of your customer data, for example.

The employment services will contact you and agree with you on organising an initial interview and job search discussions.

Ukrainian citizen

Those who have fled the war in Ukraine can work in Finland without restrictions after receiving a residence permit on the basis of temporary protection.

Information on all service channels is not available in your chosen language. Change the language of the site to receive information on service channels in other languages.

To whom and on what terms

You can register as a job seeker using strong identification in the E-services of JobMarket. If you do not have online banking codes, a mobile certificate or an identity card with a microchip, you can call the general advisory service for personal customers or visit the employment services.
