To whom and on what terms

Early childhood education and care may be given to a child who has not reached the age of compulsory education.

Early childhood education and care may also be given to a child who has already reached the age of compulsory education if special circumstances so require and care cannot be otherwise arranged.

The need for day care must be temporary, meaning you need childcare at maximum of 5 days in a month.

Background information

If you need care for your child from time to time, ask your municipality of residence for temporary early childhood education and care. Possibilities for obtaining temporary early childhood education and care are offered by both municipalities and private day-care centres.

If you receive child home care allowance, you can use temporary early childhood education and care organised by the municipality on a maximum of five days per calendar month. Purchasing temporary care services organised by a private party does not affect the home care allowance.

In temporary early childhood education and care, no personal early childhood education and care plan is made for the child.
