Ensure semantic interoperability

Applying the method facilitates the design of services and makes them more understandable for users. Central to this are the uniformity and re-use of data specifications describing data content: maximum use is made of the existing vocabularies, code sets and data models.

Instead of a situation where each organisation defines a concept and the information related to it, the description for this dataset is produced in the Interoperability Platform only once. After that, other users can refer to the description and apply it.

The descriptions of the glossaries, code sets and data models entered in the Interoperability Platform are linked data, i.e. specific network resources with their own permanent identifier, which can be referred to elsewhere.

The Glossaries tool is intended for maintaining terminological glossaries, i.e. concepts in specialised fields and related terms and definitions. The tool can also be used to show relationships between concepts.

The tool is intended for persons who define concepts or use predefined concepts in their work. The glossaries contain ready-made glossaries of different organisations and industry sectors that everyone can use.

The Code Sets tool is a national maintenance and distribution platform for code sets and classifications, one that is in common use. Code sets produced elsewhere can also be imported to the platform for publication.

Code sets and classifications are utilised, for example, in all information systems, reports, registers and search services.

The Data Models tool is a maintenance and publication tool for technically interoperable logical data models. It contains data specifications common to operators for the harmonisation of data, called core data models.

Data models can be used, for example, to manage the contents of APIs or information pools.

In addition to describing core data, the Data Models tool is used to create data definitions related to a certain context, or so-called application profiles. Application profiles may describe, for example, the content and logical structure of a dataset or an API.
