Secure AI Development Handbook

The purpose of the Secure AI Development Handbook is to comprehensively highlight challenges related to the implementation of AI systems, especially those that may jeopardise the safety or fundamental rights of citizens or the people using these systems.
This guide is intended for everyone with an interest in AI, but especially persons responsible for AI projects and the people who implement them and/or manage AI-related procurements.
In the planning and implementation of artificial intelligence projects, take all the necessary safety perspectives into account in advance:
- Secure development means ensuring that the processing of data is always done in a secure and lawful way.
- When implementing an AI system, attention must be paid to ensuring the fundamental rights of citizens.
- Any technical devices utilising AI must not pose a threat to anyone’s physical or mental health or well-being.
The use of data and AI may also have consequences that come about slowly over a longer period of time, and these also require proactive consideration.
The Secure AI Development Handbook was produced as part of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s Development Programme for Digital Security in Public Administration (JUDO). The handbook was published in March 2023.
