Registers
The Suomi.fi Web Service gives client organisations an opportunity to make their registers available to end users. End users can view their data kept in a variety of different registers by logging in to the Your data section of Suomi.fiOpens in a new window..
The Suomi.fi Web Service is available 24/7/365. Temporary downtime may be caused by planned maintenance breaks, unpredictable technical difficulties or other disruptions independent of the Suomi.fi services. Planned maintenance breaks will be announced in advance in Suomi.fi.
The service monitors
- the quality of the hosting services as specified in the SLA
- the quality of service (data security and usability audits)
- service use and coverage
- satisfaction of client organisations and end users.
Normal and anticipated external disruptions and security threats have been taken into consideration in service design and implementation. Processes are in place for monitoring and incident management.
The customer data in client organisations’ registers is only available to an end user who has used strong identification to log into the Suomi.fi Web Service.

A client organisation and the Digital and Population Data Services Agency must notify each other without delay of any changes that affect the use of the service. The terms of use of the Suomi.fi Web Service describe in more detail the changes that have to be reported.
General communication from the Suomi.fi Web Service to client organisations takes place by email.
The Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer communicates with client organisations by email.
A client organisation is an organisation that provides its register data to end users through the Suomi.fi Web Service.
A Security Server is a key component of the Data Exchange Layer that connects a client organisation’s register to the Data Exchange Layer and, through it, to the Web Service.
An end user is a citizen or a representative of a company/organisation who, through the Web Service, receives information about themselves or the company/organisation they represent from the registers of client organisations.
A register is a data repository managed by a client organisation that has been connected to the Web Service through the Data Exchange Layer. In the Web Service, the end user can be shown information about themselves or the company/organisation they represent from different registers.
REST is an HTTP-based architecture model for implementing APIs. The X-Road data transfer protocol used in the Data Exchange Layer includes a REST interface
SOAP is an XML-based communication protocol used in the interface implementation of the X-Road Security Server.
The Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer is a standardised data transfer channel providing a standardised means for transferring data between the Web Service and the client organisation’s register. Read more about the Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer
