Instructions for the Data Vocabularies tool

The Data Vocabularies tool is intended especially for describing data exchanged between different parties and in different data flows.

Go to the Data Vocabularies tool.  Opens in a new window.

The tool is used to describe, publish and maintain technology-independent, i.e. logical datamodels that describe, for example, the contents and data structures of information systems or interfaces.

There are two types of datamodels:

  • core vocabularies describe the data content of a certain domain at a general level
  • application profiles build on core data descriptions and define data structures intended for a specific use case (for example, the structure of a particular interface).

In other words, a core vocabulary is a framework that describes the basic structure of the data and their meaning. An application profile, in turn, describes how this framework is refined and constrained in a specific context.

Data models can utilize concepts described the terminologies of the Terminologies tool. The Data Vocabularies tool also makes use of code lists defined in the Reference Data tool

Anyone can view data models and download their descriptions, but creating and editing data models requires data modeler access rights. If you need access rights, please read the page Deployment of the Interoperability Platform
