How do I make diverse use of the information?
When you plan the integration, it is important to thoroughly consider what information you want to import from the FSC and what kind of presentation would benefit the end user.
You can freely decide what data fields you import from the FSC and in what order you present them in your service. Only the IT supplier’s implementation of the integration may impose restrictions on this.
Examples of ways of presenting FSC information
Group the information in a user-friendly way
You can group the details of the service and service channels the way you prefer.
For example, North Ostrobothnia wellbeing services county Pohde combines the details of the service and the service channels on the prenatal clinic page (link in Finnish) and uses the area information of the service channels to display them.
Take advantage of metadata
The service classes can be used for purposes such as
- bringing the services linked to a specific service class to a specific page,
- bringing other services related to the service to the same page or
- highlighting news related to the theme of the service on the service page.
For example, on the Aquagym for adults (link in Finnish) page of the City of Rovaniemi, all other services related to the theme of the service, physical activity, in the City of Rovaniemi have been brought to the bottom of the page.
Key words can be used on the search results page of the online service, among other things. For example, the search result page of the City of Kalajoki displays the keywords given to all matches on that page (link in Finnish).
The information on the target groups of the service can be used in grouping the information, like on the Young persons living in the Town of Nivala (link in Finnish) page, where all services for the target group Young people are highlighted.
Select the presented information according to what is needed
Many of the FSC integrations have been implemented by enabling the user of the pages to select in the organisation’s publication system what information they want to import from the FSC field by field.
In many integrations, it is also possible to select the FSC information to be presented on a service-specific basis. For example, the municipality may want to retrieve the information concerning fees from the FSC to the page on early childhood education and care, but not display this information on the basic education pages at all.
If necessary, you can also bring information about several services to the same page, like the Municipality of Utajärvi has done on its Building permission and demolition permission (link in Finnish) page.
Provide information to users in different ways
The same information can be presented in different ways in different contexts, depending on the situation. For example, the City of Tampere provides the details of schools to the user both as a list in alphabetical order and in a map view.
Take advantage of service collections
When you are compiling the services related to a specific theme, you can take advantage of service collections. In the FSC user interface, it is possible to group services and service channels by topic into service collections. The information in the service collection can be presented in the desired place on the website. A service collection can be used to ensure that only the services or service channels selected to the service collection are displayed on the desired page.
For example, users of Suomi.fi Web Service can select their own municipality on the Pregnancy page of the Having a child guide in the Web Service. After the municipality has been selected, services related to pregnancy in the user’s own wellbeing services county will be displayed. The services displayed come from the service collection compiled for this purpose.
Display additional connection information if necessary
If your organisation has described additional connection information (e.g. opening hours) in the FSC in the connection between the service and the service channel, such information is important from the point of view of using the service and should also be displayed on the website. Additional connection information can also be displayed when the customer moves from the service to the service channel that the service shares additional connection information with.
Read more about additional connection information.
For example, the service location North Karelia Central Hospital has been linked to the Care supplies (link in Finnish) service of North Karelia wellbeing services county. When you open the service locations accordion on the page of the service, you will see the address details of North Karelia Central Hospital and the description text retrieved from the additional connection information explaining where in the Central Hospital the self-service pick-up point for care supplies is located.
Also take advantage of information described by others
In addition to the details on your own organisation, you should also think about what information about other organisations you could present in your service. For example, it is possible to retrieve information about other organisations operating in the same area to your own service.
It is advisable to contact the other service and tell them about using their information. This may motivate the organisation to keep their contents more up to date.
Enrich information in your own system
You do not need to retrieve all information from the FSC. It is possible to enrich the information in your own publication system and, for example, add images and files.
