Joining the Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer development environment

The development environment is a free-form pilot environment of the Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer. Joining it does not require joining the test or production environment. The development environment enables you to try out the Data Exchange Layer’s properties, test new versions or validate the properties of your development efforts.

Compared to the test and production environments, the primary difference of the development environment is that also private persons may join it. By contrast, the test and production environments only allow recognised domestic and foreign organisations to join them.

The development environment uses certificates that belong to the operator maintaining the service. These certificates can be obtained by email without an actual application process. The same operator also maintains the timestamp service of the development environment.

Application

To join the Data Exchange Layer development environment, please fill the form below and send it to palveluvayla@palveluvayla.fi.

Before submitting an application for joining the Data Exchange Layer development environment, please make sure that

1. The Security Server is named in compliance with the Data Exchange Layer policies. The Security Server is identified using the host part of the FQDN which must contain an organisation code that identifies the Security Server owner. For example, if the applicant is CSC, the FQDN of the Security Server should be cscdevlp01.csc.fi. Further instructions on naming the Host Server and the Security Server.

2. The FQDN-name of the Security Server is in a public name service and your organisation owns the domain name.

3. The Hosting Server has the RHEL 7, RHEL 8, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or Ubuntu 22.04 LTS operating system installed. If using a Security Server Sidecar, it is advisable to have a Linux platform with Docker installed. The Data Exchange Layer Support will provide you with instructions on opening firewall ports, for example.

If you join the development environment as a private person, contact the Data Exchange Layer’s administration to get the info you need to join (member name and member code). We do not recommend using your own name, for example for the Security Server or Subsystem name. You should rather use an invented name and discuss naming with the Data Exchange Layer administration.

Installing the Security Server software

If you are installing connection server software on your computer for the first time, select and follow the installation instructions according to your server type:

Connecting the Security Server to the Data Exchange Layer

After installing the software, the Security Server must be connected to the Data Exchange Layer's development environment (FI-DEV).

Please note that instructions in this article are also used in the development environment, although the article mentions the test and production environments.
