Business rules for the service channel

This page is preliminary and will be supplemented during autumn 2026. The business rules apply to publishable content in the Finnish Service Catalogue (FSC).

Basic service channel information

Name

• Mandatory
• The maximum length is 300 characters
• The service channel name and summary cannot be the same.
• The service channel cannot have the same name as a service that is connected to it.
• An organisation cannot use the same name for two service channels of the same type (e.g. two service locations with the same name).

Organisation

• Mandatory
• Your organisation or its sub-organisation

External id

Summary

• Mandatory
• The maximum length is 300 characters
• The service channel name and summary cannot be the same.

Description

• Mandatory
• The maximum length is 5000 characters

Languages in which the service is available

Region in which the service channel is available

Creation of recommended regional information in the user interface

When a service channel is added, a recommendation is displayed in connection with regional information. If they wish, the user can select and use this information.

The aim is to find the most precise area possible to be given as the recommended regional information:

• If the regional information “Limited area” is found in the connected services, the services are combined on a list-by-list basis (municipalities, counties, subregions of business services, wellbeing services counties) and the “Limited area” regional information created this way will be used.
• If no “Limited area” regional information is found in the connected services, the regional information “All of Finland except Åland” will be used if such information is found.
• If no "All of Finland except Åland" regional information is found, the regional information "All of Finland" will be used if such information is found.
• If none of the above can be found, the organisation’s regional information will be used.

Interoperability of the service channel

• Select one of the following: Service channel can be connected to the services of all organisations; Service channel can only be connected with the services of your own organisation.
• Indicate whether other organisations can connect your service channel.

E-service channel

Web address

• Mandatory
• The maximum length is 500 characters.
• Web address of the service channel.
• The address must start with the following string: http:// or https://.

Name of web address

• Optional
• The maximum length is 100 characters.

Requires electronic identification

• Mandatory
• Select Yes or No.

Requires electronic signature

• Mandatory
• Select Yes or No.
• If Yes is selected, the Number of signatures must also be provided.

Number of signatures

• Mandatory if electronic signature is required for e-services (Yes is selected for “Requires electronic signature”).
• The value must be an integer between 1 and 9.

Service channel accessibility information

• Mandatory
• Select one or more of the following: No information, Accessibility has been well considered, Accessibility has been partially considered, Accessibility has not been considered.

Form ID

Form files

• Mandatory

• A name must be provided for the form file. The maximum length is 100 characters.
• The form file must be in one of the following formats: PDF, DOC/DOCX, XLS/XLSX, RTF or ODT.
• A web address must be given for the form file. The address must start with http:// or https://. The maximum length is 500 characters.

Form delivery information

• Optional
• You can add one or more types of delivery information.
• Select the type of postal address for the delivery information and add the information corresponding to the type: street address, post office box address or delivery information in your own words.

• Form recipient, optional. The maximum length is 150 characters.
