Service description

Suomi.fi Messages is a centralised solution in which public administration organisations can message natural persons and companies. Messages are easily transmitted via Suomi.fi Messages, regardless of whether the recipient wants their messages electronically or by paper mail.

With Suomi.fi Messages, your organisation can

  • save administrative costs, as less working time is spent on case processing
  • reduce mailing costs, as an increasing number of recipients receive official messages electronically
  • deliver documents and messages faster and more securely to your customers
  • digitalise manual steps in the service process

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) does not charge organisations for adopting the service or for sending electronic messages. An organization using Suomi.fi Messages is either obligated or has the right to deploy use of the service.

All messages sent through Suomi.fi Messages are transmitted via a secure and encrypted channel and recipients can access messages only after strong authentication. Therefore, Suomi.fi Messages can also be used to send sensitive data, such as material containing personal or health-related information, or links to public authorities’ e-services and online forms.

Suomi.fi Messages does not provide a user interface for your organisation. Messages are sent and received by integrating your own software or a third-party solution with the Suomi.fi Messages REST API. The service does not enable communication between authorities. End users can read and send messages using either a web browser or the Suomi.fi mobile application.

The service is primarily intended for electronic messaging. However, if needed, your organisation can also send paper letters through Suomi.fi Messages. To support this, DVV has arranged a cost-effective paper mailing channel via a public procurement process. Using this channel helps reduce mailing costs and frees up your staff to focus on core tasks, as printing and envelope stuffing are no longer required.
