Monitoring the state information of messages
You can track the progress of the messages you send to a recipient using the state information produced by Suomi.fi Messages. Monitoring the state information is voluntary. Suomi.fi Messages produces state information concerning all sent messages, but you can decide which information you wish to retrieve to track the message state.
See the Table below for all possible states of messages sent to end users.
Message delivery method | State in REST API | Description |
|---|---|---|
Electronic | Created | The message has been successfully created and delivered to the end user's electronic mailbox |
Electronic | Read | The end user has read the received message |
Electronic (verifiable service) | Receipt confirmed | The end user has confirmed receipt of and read verifiable service they have received |
Paper mail | Created | The message has been created successfully |
Paper mail | Sent for printing and enveloping | The printing service provider has received the message |
Paper mail (verifiable service) | Posti: Receipt confirmed | The end user has confirmed receipt of verifiable service |
Paper mail (verifiable service) | Posti: Returned to sender | The end user has not confirmed receipt of verifiable service and the document will be returned to your organisation |
Paper mail (verifiable service) | Posti: Unresolved | Successful processing of the message could not be confirmed at end of the monitoring period |
Electronic messages have no error states, as any error that occurs when sending the message is immediately reported to your organisation.
Message state information is available in the REST API for 60 days from the date on which the information is recorded in the Suomi.fi Messages system.
