Testing instructions

Your organisation must test its interface following these testing instructions as part of the process of activating Suomi.fi Messages.

Instructions for testing the main functionalities of Suomi.fi Messages have been compiled on this page. If you would like to test a specific functionality, such as address page generation when sending paper mail, familiarise yourself with the instructions for using the functionality in question in the Functionalities section of the relevant page. For example, the instructions for generating an address page are described on the Address page generation page.

Testing should be carried out in accordance with the use cases of your organisation. However, please note that material containing personal data or confidential information must not be sent to the test environment. The test environment is shared by all, so it contains test data from multiple organizations at the same time.

The more specific details for using the endpoints listed in the instructions for testing have not been described on this page. For instructions for using the endpoints, see the Test environment API documentation (api.messages-qa.suomi.fi)Opens in a new window.. Please also note that the use of each endpoint requires an authentication token received form the token endpoint.

Personal identification codes for testing

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency will provide your organisation with two personal identification codes for testing Suomi.fi Messages.

We recommend that you activate Suomi.fi Messages with at least one of these personal identity codes so that you can create an active mailbox. An active mailbox is needed to test the sending and reception of electronic messages, among other things. Carry out the activation as follows:

  1. Log into the test environment of Suomi.fi Web Service. You have received the address of the test environment and the identifiers required for accessing it from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency in connection with the activation process.
  2. After logging in, identify yourselves in Suomi.fi Web Service. Select “Test token” as the method of identification and use the personal identity code for which you want to activate Suomi.fi Messages.
  3. Go to the Suomi.fi Messages section in Suomi.fi Web Service. This page reads “You have not activated Suomi.fi Messages”.
  4. Click the button “Activate Suomi.fi Messages” and follow the instructions for activation. As the requested email address, set the address that you want to use to test the functioning of notifications concerning the messages.
  5. Confirm the email address you have set by entering the six-digit confirmation code sent to it. After your confirmation, the activation of Suomi.fi Messages for this personal identity code is complete.

If you do not activate Suomi.fi Messages for the other personal identity code, the code will serve as a recipient for testing the sending of paper mail. If you activate Suomi.fi Messages for both of your test personal identity codes you can, however, later deactivate the mailbox and set it to receive paper mail.

If you wish, you can change the state of a mailbox linked to a test personal identity code in the following way:

  1. Log into the test environment of Suomi.fi Web Service. You have received the address of the test environment and the identifiers required for accessing it from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency in connection with the activation process.
  2. After logging in, identify yourselves in Suomi.fi Web Service. Select “Test token” as the method of identification and use the personal identity code linked with the mailbox whose state you would like to change.
  3. Go to the Suomi.fi Messages section in Suomi.fi Web Service.
  4. Examine and change the mailbox state by adjusting the message delivery method in Settings.

For more detailed instructions for inactivating and re-activating the mailbox, see the instructions for end users on the page Stop using Suomi.fi Messages.Opens in a new window.

You can also use the test personal identity codes to build test automation. However, please note that the Digital and Population Data Services Agency cannot comprehensively ensure that no other party will use the test personal identity codes received by you in the test environment and possibly change the state of the mailboxes linked to them. If you notice others using the personal identity codes linked to your testing, please contact us at viestit-kayttoonotot@dvv.fi to solve the matter.

Test cases for main functionalities

Test at least the entire process of sending a message. If your organisation intends to start to retrieve the state information of messages, searching for messages sent by end users or checking the state of the end user’s mailbox, also test these functionalities. See below for detailed testing instructions:
