Customising email notifications

When your organisation sends an electronic message, the recipient receives a notification by email. If the message is not opened, the service will later send a reminder about the unread message. Notifications are sent only to users who have added their email address to Suomi.fi Messages and verified it.

If your organisation wishes, you can add your own content to the notification and make use of the available features, such as preventing reminder notifications from being sent. Any added content must also be provided in the necessary language versions. Customising notifications is optional.

If the user has the Suomi.fi mobile application in use, they will also receive information about a new message through a push notification sent by the application. As your organisation cannot add content to application notifications, this page covers email notifications only.

How can we customise notifications?

Suomi.fi Messages enables the customisation of email notification content and the definition of notification features. However, the practical implementation depends on the system you use or on your system provider’s solution.

For this reason, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency cannot provide general instructions on where notifications are edited or how changes are saved. In some systems, modifications can be made directly through the user interface, whereas in others they may require actions by the system provider or your own ICT department.

Customising notifications can be an important way to support customer communications and ensure that notifications reach end users and encourage them to take action. If changes to notification content or features are needed, determine how notifications can be edited in the system you use.
