Formatting electronic messages
Your organisation plays a key role in how clear, seamless and trustworthy electronic messages from public authorities are perceived. Carefully designed message content supports customers’ ability to handle their matters electronically and reduces the need for customer service.
Where can message content be edited?
Suomi.fi Messages is responsible for delivering the message, but the message subject, content, links, attachments and any language versions are typically created in the sending system. For this reason, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency cannot provide guidance on where and how message content is managed or formatted within your organisation.
If your organisation uses a ready-made solution provided by a system provider, message templates and content may be managed using the tools included in that system. Some message content may also be a fixed part of the system’s business logic, in which case modifying the content may require changes by the system supplier.
If your organisation has implemented an integration with the Suomi.fi Messages API independently, message content is typically managed in your organisation’s own systems.
If you are unsure where message content is managed, we recommend contacting your system provider or the party responsible for implementing Suomi.fi Messages in your organisation.
More detailed guidance on formatting message content
The sections below describe key considerations in message design and formatting, as well as their impact on the customer experience.
Please note that if your organisation also uses the printing, enveloping and distribution service (TKJ service), the content of messages delivered by paper mail must be defined separately. The technical requirements for electronic messages and paper mail are described on the pages Content of an electronic message and Content of a message delivered by paper mail.
