How to produce content in different languages?

Contents in up to six languages

  • In the FSC, you can describe content in Finnish, Swedish, English, North Sámi, Inari Sámi and Skolt Sámi.
  • If you want to add a content in a specific language, first make sure that your organisation is described in the FSC in the language in question. Add the details for your organisation in the language in question if necessary.
  • Do not create a new organisation in the missing language. Instead, add a new language version for the existing organisation.

The details of your organisation must be available in all the languages in which service or service channel information is produced for it.

Example: You cannot publish a service channel if you are describing the service channel in Finnish and Swedish but the details of your organisation are only available in Finnish. You must also describe the organisation in Swedish and publish the Swedish version. After that, you can publish the service channel in Swedish.

In which languages should the services be described?

Your organisation must ensure that it describes its services in accordance with the Language Act and the Sámi Language Act.

However, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency recommends that all organisations describe their services in Finnish, Swedish and English even if this is not required by the Language Act.

Business permits must also be described in Finnish, Swedish and English. This is a requirement under the SDG regulation.

Read more about the special instructions for describing business permits.

In which languages should the service channels be described?

You should only describe the service channels in the languages that are used by a service channel to serve its customers.

If, for example, an e-service channel is only available in Finnish, you should not describe the service channel in other languages.

If, as a result, a service described in Swedish or English cannot be connected to a service channel using the same language, you should use as the service channel an existing service channel (such as a phone number) providing general advice in Swedish or English. Alternatively, you can add a new service channel offering service in the languages in question.
